Paperclips and opinion dynamics – this time in Poznań
On Monday, April 13th, the Paperclip Game of Opinions visited the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. Agata Komendant-Brodowska led a seminar (which included the game) for the lecturers from the Faculty of Sociology and then played the game with a group of students as well. The visit was organised by prof. Przemysław Nosal (thank you for the invitation!) and it was a great opportunity not only to present the game but also to exchange ideas on how to use it, and how to develop the game further. Special thanks go to dr Maja Brzozowska for a great suggestion related to the name of the game in Polish (to be announced soon).
As for the facts and numbers, 23 academic teachers took part in the seminar and played the game and exchanged the pros and cons of the idea on whether to build a bridge in Bridgestone (this is the main storyline behind our game) and then discussed how the game could be applied in the classrooms, including some great ideas on how to develop the game further.
Later on, 20 1st year students of sociology engaged in the roleplay and reflected on the mechanisms of polarisation. There were three rounds of the game and the last one, where the group was divided into two separate circles, was the most emotional one, and the most polarising as well.
As the feedback from this visit was very positive and we feel there is room for exchanging educational ideas, the project team strongly believes it’s not our last visit in the capital of Wielkopolska region.
