Online courses
The project aims to develop and launch a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on polarisation and dialogue specifically on the Futurelearn platform. Additionally, an expanded version of the course will be tailored for UniWarsaw and UniTartu’s educational platforms. Using innovative computational approaches, the project aims to provide engaging, interactive, and accessible learning experiences for students and a broader audience, focusing on polarisation and dialogue. Participants will gain skills in identifying polarisation processes and understanding their core mechanisms. The main outcomes include a 3-week MOOC on Futurelearn, a 1 ECTS course on UniTartu and UniWarsaw’s platforms, and diverse educational materials such as videos, texts, quizzes, exercises, and social simulations. The MOOC on FutureLearn will facilitate knowledge-sharing globally, encouraging participant interaction on polarisation topics. It’s important to emphasize that this will be a comprehensive course rather than a mere collection of materials. Participants will be informed of specific learning objectives and goals, understand social polarisation mechanisms and their consequences, and learn strategies to mitigate them. They will test their knowledge through quizzes with instant feedback, apply their skills in exercises and research tasks, and ultimately be able to recognise, understand, and prevent polarisation processes, fostering meaningful dialogue and averting common pitfalls.
Work on the courses is underway, and very soon—this autumn 2025—we’re launching! The FutureLearn course begins in October, and the course on the University of Tartu platform starts in November. More information coming soon!
